Salmon Samurai — privacy
Last updated 2026-09-07. Applies to the web, Steam, desktop, Android and iOS builds.
Salmon Samurai has no accounts, no ads, no in-app purchases and no third-party analytics. Your save stays on your device. The game can send four kinds of data to us, listed below with exactly what each one carries. Nothing else leaves your device.
1. Crash and error reports — on by default, one switch to turn off
When the game breaks — a crash, a freeze, an error, a graphics failure, a device it cannot start on, a save it cannot read — it sends one anonymous report so the bug can be fixed. There is no account, no install id and no user id on these reports: each carries a random id of its own, so two reports can never be joined to one person or one device. Turn it off in SETTINGS → SEND CRASH REPORTS; turning it off also deletes anything not yet sent.
| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| build | The game's version and commit, and whether it was a development build. |
| channel and platform | Where you play (our site, itch, Steam, the desktop app, Android, iOS), the browser or shell and its major version, the operating system and its major version. |
| hardware | Device memory in GB and CPU thread count as the browser reports them (rounded, often blank), JavaScript heap size, storage quota and usage in MB. |
| graphics | The graphics adapter's vendor and architecture family, whether it is a software renderer, and four capability limits. Never a serial number. |
| layout | Window size, pixel density, orientation, safe-area insets, font scale, whether it was fullscreen. |
| the game's state | Which screen was up, the day number, the in-game tick, the run's seed, the weather, and a hash of the cards held — enough to replay the day, not enough to identify anyone. |
| the failure | The error message and the first five lines of its stack, or the frame-rate breakdown for a slow device, or the reason a graphics device was lost, or the log lines of the desktop shell's previous launch. |
| console tail | The last 20 warning or error lines the game itself printed. |
| one "boot" line per session | That the game started and how long it took, so failure counts can be read as rates. No id. |
Never in a crash report: your save file, your name, your Steam id, your IP address (the collector does not store it), your full browser string, or anything you typed.
2. REPORT A PROBLEM — only when you send it
In SETTINGS → REPORT A PROBLEM (also on the pause menu) you can write to us. The report carries your words, a category, the same device facts as above, and — if you tick the box — a recording of your last finished day: the swipes you made and the items you used, so we can replay it. It is not a video and holds nothing outside the game. You get a six-character code to quote to us. The contact field is optional; if you fill it in, it is the one personal thing in the whole system, stored only with that report and deleted with it.
3. Game stats — on by default, one switch to turn off
When you finish a day, the game sends one anonymous row about that day: how long it ran and why it ended, the cards, relics and charms in hand, what the river offered and what it paid, how many fish were cut and killed, stamina in and out, the bill and whether it was met, and what the campsite offered you that night. It is what the game is balanced on: without it a card that is too strong is found only by guessing. Like a crash report it carries no account, no install id and no session id, and each report has its own random id, so two days can never be joined to one person. Turn it off in SETTINGS → SHARE GAME STATS.
It is about the day, not about you: no name, no lasting id, no text you wrote, nothing from outside the game.
4. Share how I play — off by default
If you turn on SETTINGS → SHARE HOW I PLAY, the game sends anonymous play data — which cards you took, how far you got, how long a session lasted, what a day earned — under a random id created when you turn the switch on. You can reset that id in the same place (RESET SHARE ID); turning the switch off deletes it. Nothing about you is in it, and nothing is collected before you turn it on.
Retention and deletion
Every report is deleted 90 days after it arrives, contact field included. To delete your play data earlier, send us the id shown under SHARE HOW I PLAY and we remove every row with it. Game stats and crash reports carry no lasting id, so there is nothing to look them up by — the switch stops them and the 90 days clear them. Reports are stored in the EU (Frankfurt) on Neon (Postgres) and received by Vercel Functions on this site's own domain; no third party receives them.
Stores
On Steam, Google Play and the App Store the same three switches apply. The store listings describe this data as: crash logs and diagnostics (collected, not linked to you, optional); app interactions (collected, not linked to you, optional — the game stats above, and the play data only if you opt in); other contact info (only the optional field on a problem report). No identifiers, no location, no contacts list, no purchases, no financial or health data, and no tracking of any kind.
